More Fiscal Gimmicks From The Democrats

Posted by Rob

As our liberal Catholic friends continue to fool themselves by looking to the party of death and socialism to provide their healthcare, Senator Hatch helps to shed light on some of the fiscal gimmickry the democrats are peddling to sell their bill.

Pope Paul VI, Contraception and Big Government

Posted by Rob

What do Pope Paul VI, contraception and big government have in common? Plenty, I'd say.

In Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, did not just warn of the terrible degradation contraceptiion would bring to men and women. Rather, in the second part of paragraph seventeen the Pope warned us that if the Christian people adopted contraception as a way of life, government would favor it and then eventually mandate it.
This is how the Holy Father Put it:

"Finally, careful consideration should be given to the danger of this power passing into the hands of those public authorities who care little for the precepts of the moral law. Who will blame a government which in its attempt to resolve the problems affecting an entire country resorts to the same measures as are regarded as lawful by married people in the solution of a particular family difficulty?

Who will prevent public authorities from favoring those contraceptive methods which they consider more effective? Should they regard this as necessary, they may even impose their use on everyone. It could well happen, therefore, that when people, either individually or in family or social life, experience the inherent difficulties of the divine law and are determined to avoid them, they may give into the hands of public authorities the power to intervene in the most personal and intimate responsibility of husband and wife."

The government intrusion of the last forty years in promoting every possible for of sexual deviancy now reaches down into every single public school in every neighborhood. It is, in short, Orwellian, the kind of thing no one would have dared predicted fifty years ago.

Yet, who can deny the Holy Father was correct?

Support Your Local Turkey Farm

Did you know there is an organic poultry farm on Long Island? Raleigh's Poultry Farm is a small family-run operation which sells over one thousand fresh organic turkeys every Thanksgiving.

During the year fresh chicken, turkey and eggs are available six days a week from the little store located on a sprawling hillside property in King's Park not far from the beautiful new Christ the King Church on Old Indian Head Road.

We visited Raleigh's the other week and had a fine time looking at the exotic birds in this picturesque enclosure near the store as we waited for our order. Petting the goats and a pony were also big highlights of our trip.

The next day we enjoyed a very tasty and tender roast turkey with cornbread, sage, sausage and apple dressing (with lots of gravy for Rob who is a bonafide gravy hound.) We will be back next week for our Thanksgiving bird.

Boycott the CCHD This Sunday

This Sunday most churches will be passing the basket for donations to the U.S. Bishops' Catholic Campaign for Human Development. As some of you probably know already, this organization which is funded faithfully by donations from Catholics in the pew was the subject of a shocking expose by Raymond Arroyo on EWTN this month. He interviewed representatives from a coalition of groups seeking the reform of the CCHD who presented solid evidence that the US Bishops' flagship organization has been for some time funding groups that subvert Catholic teaching.

Apparently the CCHD has given grants to organizations that actively support abortion, contraception, and/or same-sex "marriage." Michael Hichborn, a member of American Life League, has also discovered that "the CCHD has a long history of working with and funding organizations inspired by the notorious Saul Alinsky." Hichborn mentions the radical Marxist character of Alinsky's methods and notes that the "CCHD gives over one-third of their funds to these organizations ever year." One of these organizations is, alas, the infamous ACORN.

As Hichborn sums up,

"Either the CCHD is incompetent and therefore unworthy of Catholic funds or, it's being run by pro-homosexual, pro-abortion socialists who got caught and therefore is also unworthy of Catholic funds."

Here are two videos which explain this unfortunate scandal:

A LifeSiteNews article is here:

As the second video suggests, join the boycott of CCHD this Sunday and drop some acorns in the collection basket for CCHD instead of your hard-earned dollars which you might consider giving to your local soup kitchen or Life Center instead!

P.S. Personally, I wouldn't recommend giving $$ to St. Vincent de Paul's as they wholeheartedly support the Party of Death's healthcare reform bill.

Pope Paul VI Was Prophetic

Posted by Rob

In paragraph 17 of Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI predicted some of the evils that would ensue from rejecting the doctrine of Christ on the inseparability of the unitive and procreative ends of marriage.

Sadly, the liberal theologians thought better, counseling married couples to this very day that they could licitly follow another path, the sad and tragic results being clear to all.

Let's see what the Pope predicted would happen:

17. Responsible men can become more deeply convinced of the truth of the doctrine laid down by the Church on this issue if they reflect on the consequences of methods and plans for artificial birth control. Let them first consider how easily this course of action could open wide the way for marital infidelity and a general lowering of moral standards.
Not much experience is needed to be fully aware of human weakness and to understand that human beings—and especially the young, who are so exposed to temptation—need incentives to keep the moral law, and it is an evil thing to make it easy for them to break that law.
Another effect that gives cause for alarm is that a man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional equilibrium, reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should surround with care and affection.

Holy Father, you were right, and, as Archbishop Sheen told you, you "were crucified by your very own."

Huckabee!

One of the readers was asking about this, so here are a few pictures of our meeting with my favorite 2008 GOP presidential candidate, Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas.(Rob's favorite was the brave, straight-shooting Congressman from Texas.)

The former Baptist minister was signing copies of his new book at the Huntington Book Revue a few weeks ago. We waited for over an hour in a long line of young to middle-aged people to shake the affable governor's hand.

When we reached his table, I couldn't resist telling this great pro-life, pro-family man that he is the best hope for America.

An Alarming Statistic For Our Diocese

The good news is that our Seminary has forty seminarians.

The bad news is that only twelve seminarians are studying to be priests for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

With a Catholic poulation of 1.5 million, that means we have one vocation for every 125,000 Catholics.

The liberal program enacted here 40 years ago clearly hasn't worked very well....

Bishop Murphy To Close Our Seminary?

In an article in this week's Long Island Catholic, Bishop Murphy discusses the possibility of closing our Seminary. The link is here for those who want to read it.

We have also been informed that the Bishop has been contemplating this idea for ten years--- something the article doesn't mention.

Furthermore, we have learned that the Bishop is contemplating the sale of some of the surrounding land the Seminary is situated on.

To my mind, the decision to divide and sell parts of this landmark property is a heartbreaking development, but is, alas, sign and symbol of the parcelling off of our dogmatic and theological patrimony by the progressive theologians that has been taking place here for decades.

The possible closing of the Seminary and sale of parts of this priceless piece of Long Island is the visible symbol of that diminishment of the Catholic Faith that's been taking place here for years.

Thus, we see in toto the realization of the progressive program:

1. Permit Catholicism to be redefined to suit the fancy of the world.

2. Do little or nothing to stem the tide of bored and disillusioned Catholics from leaving the Church.

3. When faithful Catholics decry what's going on in their parishes, demonize them as extreme vigilantes not living in the real world, all the while denying any crisis of faith exists.

4. Do nothing to provide alternatives for those Catholics seeking orthodox catechesis and reverent liturgies.

5. When things hit rock bottom, close the Church's and institutions, selling off the properties in place of the money no longer being supplied by faithful Catholics in the collection plate.

How very sad...

Pope John Paul II and Women

I was thinking today about the beautiful document, Familiaris Consortio by the late Polish Pope.

In paragraph twenty-three, the Holy Father has this to say about mothers not being forced to work outside the home:

"While it must be recognized that women have the same right as men to perform various public functions, society must be structured in such a way that wives and mothers are not in practice compelled to work outside the home, and that their families can live and prosper in a dignified way even when they themselves devote their full time to their own family.

Furthermore, the mentality which honors women more for their work outside the home than for their work within the family must be overcome. This requires that men should truly esteem and love women with total respect for their personal dignity, and that society should create and develop conditions favoring work in the home."

What was the Polish Pope trying to tell us, and why?

Why don't we ever hear of this teaching?

Is a Catholic who believes this teaching considered 'extreme?'

Happy Days Are Here Again?

Posted by Rob

Now wherever you are on the ecclesiastical spectrum, I'm sure we can all agree on this one point: If the SSPX is regularized, does anyone think that life in the Diocese of Rockville Centre will remain as quiet as it is now?

For instance, if Msgr. Maniscalco writes a sensitive and nuanced column defending the funeral of Senator Kennedy on affective grounds, do you really think a regularized SSPX will have nothing to say about it, if asked?

Or, if a high-profile Nassau County politician endorses gay marriage and is still allowed to receive Communion, are we so sure an approved local SSPX would have no comment on the matter?

Will the convenient 40-year silence on Humanae Vitae remain in place?

Will the failure to denounce pornography, immodesty, and the general loss of faith we are seeing remain unchallenged if a regularized and approved SSPX gets the green light by the Pope?

In other words, if you think we're outspoken, you ain't seen nothin' yet----if the SSPX is foresighted enough to accept the canonical solution which Bishop Bernard Fellay has acknowledged is now on the table:

In an interview with the Chilean daily, “El Mercurio,” the Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X, Bernard Fellay, acknowledged that the Vatican is considering the possibility of converting the Lefebvrist group into a personal prelature as part of the discussions aimed at bringing about reconciliation.

Fellay, who visited members of the SSPX movement in Chile, is one of four bishops whose excommunication was lifted by Pope Benedict XVI last January. Asked about the speculation that the Society of Pius X could be made into a personal prelature similar to Opus Dei, Fellay responded, “There is a lot of truth to that. I think the Vatican is moving towards that kind of canonical
solution.”

Even though our SSPX friends make us at DRVC Catholics look like slap-happy progressives, I have to tell you that if this regularization goes through as projected, Julie and I will be singing a rousing chorus of "Happy Days Are Here Again!"
